Day 7

Sherlock Holmes
Written By Michael Robert Johnson, Anthony Peckham, and Simon Kinberg
Directed By Guy Ritchie
Actors: Robert Downie Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong, Kelly Reilly, Eddie Marsan and others
Movie Length: 2 hours and 8 minutes
Rottentomatoes Rating: 69%
IMDB Rating: 7.7/10.0
My Rating: 10/10

This movie had such a great starring cast in Robert Downie Jr., Jude Law, and Rachel McAdams.  As we've seen in the trailers, Robert Downie Jr. plays Sherlock Holmes who is known to be the greatest fictional detective.  His partner John Watson, played by Jude Law, is a doctor and Holmes' closest friend.  Irene Adler, played by Rachel McAdams, is a criminal who Holmes has grown an interest in.  The movie played very well with the flow of the storyline.  Never did the storyline stray from it's path.  The acting job of those 3 star actors were brilliant.  Now I've seen the trailer before watching this movie and everything led me to believe that Sherlock Holmes was altered in this movie to be more badass.  But contrary to my beliefs, this is exactly how Sherlock Holmes is portrayed in the novels.  After watching this movie I had to research about Sherlock Holmes and he indeed fought in multiple occasions and he was quite the brawler apparently.  Which furthers my belief in how strongly Robert Downie Jr.'s acting was and how great of a directing job Guy Ritchie did.  This movie could possibly be one of my favorite movies that in the future, I'll be able to watch over and over again.  I think it may even lead me to begin reading the actual novels of Sherlock Holmes.  (Apparently, Sherlock Holmes never said "Elementary, my dear Watson" in the novels. Only in the other movies and shows did he say that.)  Because of this movie, I, personally have become interested in the novel version of Sherlock Holmes.

Day 6

Youth in Revolt
Written by Gustin Nash (Novel by C.D. Payne)
Directed by Miguel Artata
Actors: Michael Cera, Michael Cera with a moustache, Justin Long, Portia Doubleday, Zach Galifianakis, Fred Willard, and more
Movie Length: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Rottentomatoes Rating: 71%
IMDB Rating: 7.1/1.0
My Rating: 9/10

Youth in Revolt is another Michael Cera movie.  He plays the same character he always has, but this time he made a badass version.  If you are unfamiliar with the character he plays, he tends to play an awkward guy who is chasing after this awkward girl.  If I tell you anymore, it would ruin this movie.  Youth in Revolt is hilarious and if you enjoy raunchy humor, then this is a must see.  There is really not much to say about this except that it is a Michael Cera film that is hilarious.  I really enjoyed watching it.

The Book of Eli
Written by Gary Whitta
Directed by Albert and Allen Hughes (and I write it this way because they are brothers)
Actors: Denzel Washington and Mila Kunis (are the only ones that matter, but there are others)
Movie Length: 1 hour and 58 minutes
Rottentomatoes Rating: 44%
IMDB Rating: 7.6/10.0
My Rating: 7.10

The Book of Eli stars Denzel Washington and Mila Kunis who fall under the category of eye candy for most viewers (Mila Kunis is hot, but I gotta admit that Denzel is quite easy on the eyes himself =]).  The pros of the movie would have to be the action sequences, the overall storyline, nice twists, and well... eye candy.  The cons are it's dragged out moments(too many traveling scenes), anti-climactic disappointments, and lack of attention to detail.  This movie could have been so much better, but overall it's a good watch.  I don't think it'll make anyone's top 10 movies or all time favorites, but it might intrigue a few here and there.

Day 5

I'm sorry I haven't blogged in awhile.  I just never really had the thought about blogging about something.  I do it here so I feel like I'm not trying to impose on people to read what I have to say, but I feel like I just want to write it down and have it out there so someone may stumble over this and maybe show some of their own insights.

Oh don't worry, it's not about something life changing or anything.  I've just been watching a lot of movies and I felt the need to write what I think about them.  You know like a critic.  So this is what I'll be doing with this blog from now on.  So here it goes.

Funny People
Written and Directed by Judd Apatow
Actors: Adam Sandler, Seth Rogan, Leslie Mann, Eric Bana, Jonah Hill, and more.
Movie Length: 2 hours 26 minutes
Rottentomatoes Rating: 68%
IMDB Rating: 7.0/10.0
My Rating: 3/10

I tried really hard to like this movie, but so much of it turned me off.  The first half of the movie was decent.  You smile at these raunchy one liners which usually contain genitalia and you feel bad for George Simmons (Adam Sandler).  But the second half of the film completely drags the film down.  It becomes hard to like any character in this movie at this point and you can't help, but to wonder when the film is going to end.  By the way, the movie is about 2 and a half hours long which in my opinion is at least 30 minutes too long for what it was supposed to be.  All in all there are a lot of Adam Sandler movies I would rather watch than this movie.

Star Trek
Written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman
Directed by J.J. Abrams
Actors: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Leonard Nimoy, Eric Bana, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Karl Urban, and others.
Movie Length: 2 hours and 7 minutes
Rottentomatoes Rating: 94%
IMDB Rating: 8.2/10.0
My Rating: 8.5/10

I had never seen a full episode of the televised version of Star Trek so I know little to none about what the movie was to portray of the television show.  What I do know is that as action packed as it was, the plot never lacked.  It was a great blockbuster-ized version of the show which is hard to come across.  The only thing I find bothering me are character related.  I few scenes left me a some questions about certain characters, but I am glad that they didn't drag out the movie any longer.

Crank 2: High Voltage
Written and Directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor
Actors: Jason Statham and Amy Smart (are the biggest names in this movie)
Movie Length: 1 hour and 36 minutes
Rottentomatoes Rating: 62%
IMDB Rating: 6.5/10.0
My Rating: 6/10

Now I started this movie knowing what to expect because I saw the first Crank.  It's basically Crank with a different vice that he needs.  Also, you could only imagine so much from a Jason Statham movie.  You get him beating a lot of people up by himself, a lot of bloodshed, jumping from buildings, and in this movie (as with Crank) a sex scene with Amy Smart.  The storyline is is short and simple.  He is chasing after someone so that he can live normally, but he has to have a dose of a vice to stay alive momentarily because something happened to him.  Like I said, I started the movie knowing what to expect so I finished happy with what I wanted out of the movie.  If you want in-depth storylines, strong character developement, and something to think about after the movie, this movie isn't for you.  If you want to watch a white man beat up and kill a bunch of guys while going insane for an hour and a half, then you're in a for a treat.

That is all for tonight.  I have to be ready for the New Orleans Saints game tomorrow at 1:30!  I'm so excited to watch it.  Tomorrow I'll be writing a review about The Book of Eli.  Denzel Washington is in it so it has to be good right?

EDIT: Also, I will be reviewing Youth in Revolt.  Michael Cera is quite a funny man.

Day 4

I've compiled a list of television shows to watch.  I've already commited to watching 6 out of 9 of those shows.  New ones to me are Dark Blue, Flashfoward, and the new season of family guy. I guess you can say this is less of a list of shows to start watching and more of a reminder to keep watching.

Shows to watch:
1.How I Met Your Mother (HIMYMFTW) Mondays @ 8
2.House M.D. (cmon.. it’s house.) Mondays @ 8
3.Glee (it’s quite funny + drama) Wednesdays @ 9
4.Community (hella funny) Thursdays @ 9:30
5.Flashfoward (recommended by Brian Tang) Thusdays @ 8
6.Dark Blue (recommended by Brian Tang, but maybe) Wednesdays @ 11
7.Family Guy (new season!) Sundays @ 9
8.The Big Bang Theory (geek funny) Mondays @ 9:30
9.NFL: New Orleans Saints (atdhe.net to watch Saints kick ass =]) SPORTS WEEKEND! WOO!

Shows that fell off my list:
1.Heroes (ridiculous plotline now)
2.Scrubs (I’ll watch and see if I like a couple of episodes on Season 9, but low expectations =[)
3.The Cleveland Show (saw an episode. wasn’t funny. disappointing.)

Shows that I’ll start when I have more free time:
1.Entourage (i wish i started earlier).
2.Always Sunny In Philadelphia ( “” ).
3. The Office ( “” ).

BTW, I just saw G.I. Joe Rise of the Cobra.  "Knowing is half the battle." Thats one of the most legit quotes I've ever heard from a cartoon.  Nowadays we got stupid cartoon quotes like, "Gotta catch them all!"  It's not even like Ash followed through.  The total amount of pokemon he caught in the original was like 10 or 11.  Thats not even 10% of the pokemon yet.  Retard. Had I watched G.I. Joe as a kid, I'd be all not judgemental, not stupid, and not crazy.  Well not like I'm any of those anyway but, instead of running around with shroom induced Ash trying to catch crazy fucking beast.  I even ended up catching a pokemon called Missing No.  What kind of crazy shit is that?

Sorry.  I digress.  My entry is over.  Time to go get ready for a BBQ.

Oh one more thing.  Kanye West may be an absolute conceited asshole, but he is damn good at what he does.  Being an asshole and making music.  It cannot be denied.

Here is Kanye West doing his song Robocop at vh1 storytellers.

Day 3

I got out of bed 42 minutes ago wanting to write an entry on my blog.  I sat here and jotted down a bunch of ideas.  Nothing felt right.

I'm sleep deprived.  So what?

Lets turn it into something edgy to make it interesting.  Can't do it.  I'm not depressed.

Why am I still awake?  Don't know why.  Scratch that, chalk this night up to a House M.D. marathon.

What do I write?  Something because you got out of bed to do it.

One thing that comes up to your mind right now?  Life wouldn't be worth living if it meant living it without you. 26 months and counting.

I'm truly in love.  It just took me 4 years to figure it out.  Shows how much of a romantic I am.

Good night.

Day 2

It's not that insomnia struck me again because I fell asleep around 12.  I'd say my heart was calling out for a chance to talk to her before I actually went to sleep.

I crashed while waiting for her to return home.  Unfortunately, 45 minutes after I fell asleep, she had come home.  And by she, I mean Cynthia.  All of a sudden my eyes open wide as I'm in search for some kind of clue that she had come home.  She had.  She IMed me and I had failed to respond.  Dammit.  I respond back to her in hope that she's still awake.  No response.  Dammit..  An hour later I notice she's still not idle, so I try again.  No response.  Dammit...

She had been at her fraternity's dance.  I worry over stupid things.  I'm allowed to right?  I mean dances are events where guys tend to try to grind up on girls correct?

Photos of her night were up on facebook.  She looked happy.  I'm glad.  She looks kind of red.  I wonder why.

I'm still up wasting time.  No one's on to conversate with.  No one is on to play games with.  Logged onto Blogspot.  Turned on my winamp and play Mike Posner's A Matter of Time.

"You got your head in the clouds, the stars in your eyes.  Everyone can see it but you.  And I don't know how you believe your own lie.  No one wants to tell you the truth.  It's just a matter of time, before it all comes crashing down.  The harder you try, the more we can see the real you, the real real you."

The only reason I'm still up is because I'm hoping that she wakes up so I can speak to her.  I've become dependent on her.  Waking up in the morning doesn't feel nice when it's been done without speaking with her the night before.  I've become completely dependent on her.

it is now 6:45AM and she is still not waking up.  I guess I should just give up.  It's a weekend.  She should get sleep.  Maybe I'll catch her in the morning.

Oh BTW, i hope you have a nice move back to LA Trung.

SHE AWOKE!  my night/morning is not ruined.

Good night everybody.

9.17.2009

Day 1

I'm attempting to combat my insomnia with a nightly dose of the online journal.  In these attempts, you might read some of the craziest stories of my life and then you might come across the dullest moments of my life.  Either way, if you have chosen to read this journal, you've agreed to enter the my mind.  I am not reliable for whatever happens to you from here on out.  So let's start.

"Sometimes my mind wanders away from me."

This line has been a favorite of mine and it came from a song called Who Knows by Mike Posner.

By the way, I've been trying to create some poetry.  You can see some of them at AlmostPoetry.tumblr.com.

I've been coming and going to UOP (University of Pacific) quite a lot in the last month.  Driving long distance is a bitch when you're driving alone.  And sleepy.  But the reward has always been worth it.  Nothing could be better than a day or 3 with my other half, Cynthia.  And I say a day because I've driven to carmel to go to the beach so i could spend a day with her.  In the last 3 weeks, I've spent 10 1/2 hours driving to UOP and back (i picked her up from livermore and drove her back once). But at least I CAN see her now and then.

My last adventure just happened to be me driving back from UOP.  September 13th, I drove Cynthia back to UOP so that we could stay the night there.  I helped her finish her essay for her PACS class (whatever the hell that is).  We stayed up all night to finish it because she's a procrastinator and didn't get anything done in the 2 hours I was sleeping.  I woke up at 1AM and we got the essay done at 5:30AM.  We both thought that if we fell asleep, we'd just be even more tired.  Oh how we were wrong.  We ate breakfast, I came back to the dorm while she went to class.  I fell asleep, and woke up to go with her to lunch.  After lunch, I left to drive back home.

This drive was horrible.  As soon as I hit the freeway, I got groggy, but I was hitting 90 so I could get back ASAP.  I hardly dropped below 70.  45 minutes into the drive, my eyes got heavy.  I was singing to keep me from closing my eyes.  1 hour into the drive, I was shouting out random things to wake me up.  1 hour and 10 minutes into the drive, I was psyching myself up for getting home.  It may not sound so crazy to some of you, but you just had to be in the car at the time.  I knew I was doing it for a reason and I still thought I was insane.  As soon as I got home, I KO'd on the bed.  Didn't even take off my socks to get comfortable.  Yes, I slept with my socks on.  It was terrible.  I woke up still tired as hell.  Oh by the way, I left UOP at 12:45.  I got back at 1:40.  My new record. =]

Imagine it, a stock silver Honda Accord hitting 90mph and passing up a porsche.

Yo Le, I'm real happy for you and I'mma let you finish, but your drunk story was your greatest story of all time!  OF ALL TIME!

Oh Kanye, you can't be messing with T-Swizzle like that.  She'll come and bake you cookies at night man!

I do have an epic drunk story that everyone knows about already, but lets just put it on here so people can reminisce about it with me.  I'll save it for next time.

Sayonara Bitches! =]
